Linguistic beginnings

In 2006 I graduated magna cum laude from Ghent University with a Master’s in Dutch-French-Spanish Translation, which included an Erasmus exchange at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid and additional courses in business English and German.

Today my languages include Dutch, French, Spanish, English, German and Portuguese.

Translation and beyond

After working as an in-house translator, a language teacher and a multilingual assistant, I joined Cigna, an American international insurance company for expats. I dealt with expats every day and negotiated with hospitals worldwide in six different languages.

Five years later I started to miss translation and moved to Brussels, where I worked as an in-house legal translator for DLA Piper, a renowned international law firm. I translated all kinds of legal and corporate documents, while also working as a sworn translator on notarial deeds, certificates and judgments for lawyers, notaries and expats.

In January 2018 I founded Nuytten Legal Translations, focusing on certified translation.

Credentials and training

In 2008 I became a sworn translator at the Court of First Instance of Courtrai (Kortrijk), and in 2022 I also obtained certification as an official sworn translator from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAEC) in Madrid.

I am a member of the three Belgian professional organisations for translators: the Belgian Chamber of Translators and Interpreters, the Professional Organization of Sworn Translators and Interpreters and Lextra Lingua. I am also affiliated with the Spanish Professional Association of Judicial and Sworn Translators and Interpreters (APTIJ).

I keep honing my skills by attending seminars, workshops and webinars on translation and legal matters, and by reading specialist literature.
